Minecraft Birthday Party

So, this year my soon-to-be 7 year old has requested a Minecraft party. This might be one of the easier parties I've done. Since everything is blocky, it's not too hard to make your own decorations and things. I've found lots of great ideas already on Pinterest.

As I get things done I will post them. Here's hoping he doesn't change his mind before the end of February!

Practice Cake #2

My husband decided that the cake would look better if I piped the sides instead of smoothing them on. So here is attempt #2 with piping. I also got black food coloring this time. I like the color very much. :)

The first pic is just straight line piping. The next two pics I added a few vertical lines on the sides to try to give it the look of stone blocks. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I wanted to compare them. The icing looks "runny" because I didn't refrigerate it while I was working on it. I used it right out of the bowl after mixing and I took a while working on it. I think I may have over mixed it too. I also forgot to do white icing on top of the cake for the inside of the portal. Oops. :)

Cake trial run

I decided that I might want to practice making the centerpiece of the Skylanders party before the big day. Today was the first attempt. It turned out to be a little easier than I was expecting, but I still have my work cut out for me. I didn't have the right food coloring so I just had to go with blue. I think it will help a lot when it's the right color. I also think that adding some white emblems to the sides will be relatively easy. At least I know which direction to go now. :)  *I forgot to take the pics before I cut it, so that didn't help the overall look).

Happy "dirty-30" to me!!

I've spent a glorious Sunday with family and friends celebrating the last day of my 20's! Tomorrow I will be turning the big 3-oh!! I have barely seen my scrap room today, let alone crafted. So, I will share two cards with you made by some people close to my heart. (Bear in mind they are NOT crafters!!) :)
First, this is the card my husband made me:I don't think you can tell by the picture, but he actually embossed the cupcake image! He's never even seen me use the Cuttlebug and yet he still managed to figure it out! I was VERY impressed! He colored it and even stamped inside the card. He definitely brought his A-game for this birthday! :)

Second is a card made by my sister:My sister will be the first to tell you that she is the farthest thing from crafty. So for her to make such a cute card is nothing short of a miracle!! :) She decorated the inside too.

I had such a great day! I even got to go shopping after my party. It doesn't get much better than that. Then, I walked in to this:Now, there is nothing wrong to coming home to that sweet face! It's just that before I left that sweet face was surrounded by a lot more hair!! :) This is what he looked like before my short trip (Well this pic was a few weeks ago, but you'll see where I'm going with this):So, needless to say, daddy was quite busy! After the initial shock I calmed down and realized that less is better for this warm weather! Colson is sort of "known" for his crazy hair though. It hasn't laid down from the moment he was born. It's a little shocking to see that wild hair relatively tamed. No worries though. His hair grows faster than any kid I've ever seen! :) It should be back to it's old self in a month or so.

I've gotten rather long winded in my old age! Sorry about that. I'm off to the movies, but before I go, here are a few more birthday card/party pictures to finish off!

Sweet!

I don't have a project of my own to post today, but I wanted to share something I got in the mail this afternoon. Over on SCS there is a group called RAK. It stands for Random Act of Kindness. People make cards and send them out to others in the group for any 'ol reason. It's really rather sweet and lots of fun. There is also a sub-group for birthdays. I almost forgot about it until I opened my mailbox today! A wonderful stamper named Mary sent me the cutest card along with a set of adorable, little clear stamps! Check them out:This is all very nice in general. What made it even better today was that I was kinda "down in the dumps". When I saw this it really brightened my day.

See!? Cardmaking is a marvelous hobby! So much enjoyment to go around!! :)

Welcome blog hoppers! :)

This is a card I made for a contest on The Greeting Farm website. The contest was to think outside the normal square card layout. It was called "Don't be a square". :)
I found the tempate for the baseball cap here: http://houseofstirfry.com/chia/index.html.

I colored Ian (digital stamp) with my Bic Write-It markers. I am SO into those things! They are a fraction of the cost of Copic markers and work just as well!!

I cut the baseball on my Cricut (Circle), and then threaded red floss to look like stitching. It was actually very easy.

Enjoy the blog hop! (If you don't know what I'm talking about you can check it out here: TGF blog hop.)

Simple Birthday Wishes

I made this card for a friend who is celebrating her 50th birthday! I figured she might not want bold reminders of the milestone, so I made this a clean & simple card. :)Stamp: Stampin' Up - Crazy for Cupcakes (sentiment), Stampabilities (Tree)
Ink: Stampin' Up - Garden Green, Brilliance Pigment - Black, Bic Write-It markers
Technique: Dots with a white gel pen

I am definately a big fan of CAS (clean & simple) cards. I cut the tree out and popped it up with Pop Dots to make it stand out a little more. It really is just as simple as that! So, hopefully this card will help make my friend's birthday a little brighter!
